The Ghepan lake trek is a hidden gem in the Lahaul valley, offering a breathtaking journey to a high-altitude, neon-turquoise glacial lake. This 5-day trek begins in Manali and takes you through lush alpine meadows and rugged mountain terrain. Reaching an altitude of approximately 4100 metres , the trek provides a rare opportunity to witness a pristine lake that remains tucked away from the mainstream tourist trails, surrounded by the majestic peaks of the Himalayas.

ITINERARY

Day 01

Upon your arrival in Manali, you will check into your hotel and take some time to rest. Later in the day, the group will gather for an essential orientation and briefing session led by the trek leader. This session covers the route details, safety protocols, and a thorough equipment check to ensure everyone is prepared.

Day 02

After breakfast, the adventure begins with a short drive to the designated trek starting point. From here, you will begin your trek through beautiful alpine meadows, following a trail characterized by gradual ascents. The day's goal is to reach the base camp, where you will settle into your tents. The evening is reserved for an acclimatisation walk to help your body adjust to the higher elevation, followed by dinner and an overnight stay under the stars.

Day 03

This is the most significant day of the trek, starting early in the morning for the summit push toward the pristine Ghepan lake. As you reach the high-altitude lake, you will be greeted by stunning views of the turquoise waters surrounded by majestic Himalayan peaks. After spending quality time taking in the scenery at the lake, you will begin your descent. You will return to the familiar comfort of the base camp by late afternoon for dinner and a well-deserved night's rest.

Day 04

Following breakfast, you will begin the final leg of the trek by descending from the base camp back down to the road head. Once you reach the vehicle, you will enjoy a scenic drive back to Manali. After checking into your hotel, the rest of the day is yours to relax and recover from the trek. The evening is free for you to rest or explore the local market at your own pace.

Day 05

Checkout after breakfast. On your final day, you will have the opportunity to explore more of Manali’s local attractions after breakfast, depending on your departure schedule.

    Trail Transfers: Specialized transport for rugged transit specifically between Manali and the trekking trailheads (start and end points).
  • Accommodation:
    Comfortable guesthouses in Manali on double occupancy, and alpine tents or mountain guesthouses on the trail.
  • Trek
    Guided trek with professional camping gear.
  • Meals: All meals during the trek (breakfast, lunch, and dinner), and dinner and breakfast for the remaining itinerary.
  • Permits & Fees: Forest department entry fees, trekking permits, and local camping fee.
  • Staff: English-speaking tour leader, experienced local mountain guides and camping staff.
  • Offloading: Porter and mule charges for ferrying all luggage except personal day pack.
