ITINERARY
Day 01
The journey begins with a scenic drive from Srinagar to Sonamarg, the "Meadow of Gold." This entire day is dedicated to acclimatization, which is crucial before starting the high-altitude trek. You will check into your campsite or hotel, take a short, easy walk, and prepare your gear for the days ahead.
Day 02
The first day of trekking starts with a gentle walk along the Sindh River before climbing through thick pine and maple forests. The trail opens up into a beautiful, vast meadow known as Shokhdari, offering the first views of the colossal peaks ahead. You will camp at the Nichnai area, a sprawling, picturesque meadow.
Day 03
Today is defined by crossing the first major hurdle: Nichnai Pass. The climb to the pass is gradual but long, offering magnificent views of the valley below. After crossing the pass, the descent leads into the open fields and meadows of the area, finally revealing the stunning blue waters of Vishansar Lake (The Lake of Vishnu), where you will camp beside the lake shore.
Day 04
This is the most challenging day, involving the highest point of the trek. You first hike up to see the nearby Krishansar Lake and then begin the steep ascent to Gadsar Pass. From the summit, the views of both Vishansar and Krishansar lakes lying side-by-side are breathtaking. The long descent brings you to the vibrant green meadows of Gadsar, famous for its hidden lake and alpine flowers.
Day 05
Today’s trek is relatively easier and highly scenic. The trail crosses several streams and passes three small, beautiful lakes. The route is mostly flat or gently ascending through open grasslands known for their changing colors. You will finally arrive at the Satsar campsite, which is a collection of seven small, high-altitude lakes.
Day 06
The trail starts with a rocky section that requires careful navigation. You will cross a final pass, Zaj Pass, which offers stunning panoramic views of the entire region. The long descent from Zaj Pass brings you to the magnificent Gangabal and Nundkol twin lakes, sitting side-by-side at the base of Mount Harmukh. This campsite is one of the best on the trek.
Day 07
Enjoy a full day of rest and exploration at the majestic twin lakes. You can hike up to the base of Mount Harmukh or simply spend the day relaxing by the lake, soaking in the views, and enjoying the tranquility. This rest day helps recover energy for the final descent.
Day 08
This is the final and longest stretch of the trek. It involves a continuous, steep descent back to civilization. The trail passes through dense forests of pine and fir, and across meadows, eventually leading to the ancient village of Naranag, famous for its ruins of the 8th-century temple complex. The trekking phase concludes here.
Day 09
After a final breakfast in Naranag, you will board your vehicle for the scenic drive back to Srinagar, concluding the unforgettable journey across the Great Lakes of Kashmir.
