Himmat is an entrepreneur and a dog lover who travelled with Jugnu, his Labrador, extensively in the Garhwal Himalaya. It is his belief that pet holidays must always be ‘for’ your pet, and not ‘with’ your pet. The difference? In the former, your pet just accompanies you on your holiday, whereas in the latter, the entire holiday is planned based on your pooch’s preferences.
And so it was whenever they went on holidays together. Jugnu, being a poor traveller, road trips were planned in a way that they broke journey for the night after every six hours at the most. Accommodation selected was always on the ground floor, with open spaces outside so that Jugnu could roam around freely, something which city life did not allow him easily. The holiday destinations chosen were always those which had walks and treks easily available, with limited Indies around, who can be possessive about their territory.
The days were spent based on Jugnu’s timetable, preferences, and sleep schedule. It could mean a very early morning walk when he was up, but the sun wasn’t, or simply sitting by a water body late in the evening, the silence broken only by the chirping of birds, and both of them lost in what seemed to be a common world with man, dog and mountain.
